Just one minor point. It was the Waffen-SS that did not have chaplains. The Wehrmacht already had Protestant and Catholic chaplains and bishops. At Degrelle’ s insistence, Wallonien was allowed Catholic chaplains, the only SS unit with that dispensation.
It was noted – I think by General Hausser – that church attendance among the SS was actually higher than among regular Heer formations.

But i see why Catholicism gets a lot of flak from other wignats, but a lot of it (which is genuine) i feel is aimed at a lot of the things that came out of the 2nd Vatican Council. Which isnt what Catholicism is purely about.

A German client of mine loaned me that book about 12 years ago. Really liked it. Critics have said it’s all fiction. But I actually found the parts they said were the most fictionalized to be the most realistic. One of the reasons for that was that I’d had a supervisor some years earlier who’d been in the British paratroops and had jumped out over the Suez Canal during the crisis in the mid-fifties and had actually marched past an area secured by FFL troops. I’ve had a number of encounters with feral hominids similar to that over the years. I didn’t realize they were unusual until I was nearly an adult. Random violence and chimpenings were pretty much a fact of life during much of my childhood and teen years.
Looking back I’m amazed I’m alive and with relatively little trauma, physical or psychological. For most of my adult life my IRL friends thought I was being unkind to, or at the least exaggerating or hyperbolic about groids until the last few years.
