Natural gas plants failed Bros, and that was for a lot of reasons. They weren’t winterized and the natural gas supplies froze over (compressors, pipes, well-heads, etc). There are still machines commissioned with single contact E-Stops because they’re reusing an old design and the customer didn’t pay for the higher level safety protocols.
You can only do this in high margin products. For example machines that get sold for several millions. Current employer I work for actually goes overboard with accessibility and maintenance ease for operators, to the point it starts cutting into the feasibility of the product.

Back when my one relative was an engineer, before CAD, they had to actually make sure things would work before drawing them so they only had to do it once.
I think there were a lot more junior level engineers and plain old draftsmen back then too. Probably 20 people doing the work that is done by 5 or 6 now.
