In this series, we present the stories of our nation's founders, told from our perspective and freed from neoliberal indoctrination and mindless jingoism. Expanding on previous episodes in the series, including American Coup D'Etat (primer for the series), American Mephistopheles (Hamilton Deep-Dive), and American Ozymandias (Jefferson Deep-Dive), this episode is a survey of the cultural and political context in which Franklin lived, his many contributions, especially in the field of science and Pre-Revolutionary American populism, as well as his faults and unfortunate associations. It’s hard to imagine Ben Franklin skinny (young) and fit for a change. Great artwork again this week, Frontierland!
Much obliged. Funny digging up reference for the artwork, I came across numerous illustrations portraying young Franklin as such and in many you’ll see women peeking out of doors and windows, looking over their shoulders to check him out.
A little secret, I’m not that young and not that skinny, but I took a photo of myself dressed up in makeshift colonial attire in order to get just the right pose to build my painting on. Historical reenactment are just some of the lengths we go to here in the FTN Art Dept.
