Borzoi and Alex have a casual conversation about movies they like to watch around Halloween as Borzoi desperately tries to big brain the entire episode.

Intro is Vapor Lounge off Grim Omen. Ending song is Death and Bardo.
So get this, Dan O’Bannon said his crohn’s disease, which eventually killed him, inspired him to come up with the Alien bursting from people’s stomachs. Crohn’s disease is actually more prevalent among jews, so you could speculate that his mother in fact was jewish and that “alien” was his meditation on his self-hatred for that fact.
Wow i have seen almost none of these films. So ready to get some good horror.
Deathgasm is a based NZ film wherein our black metal protagonists accidentally summon a bunch of demons and, with the help of a gourgeous blonde lass, engage in a mass slaughter of demons. All White cast.
Cabin Fever was directed by (((Eli Roth)))
The Joss Whedon movie you were thinking of was Cabin In The Woods.
I really like the analysis that the YouTube channels Collated Learning / Rob Ager do for the The Shining and Poltergeist. After watching those I watched the Shining with my wife and she really liked it. I was playing Midnight the Stars and You, when I was working in a supposedly haunted house for two weeks this past summer (nothing out of the ordinary but just curious to see all the old carpentry work that went into 150+ year old houses.) If Borzoi and Alex could post their list of films for halloween in the show notes I would appreciate… Read more »
Happy Halloween!
Borzoi post your top 10
Where we’re going you don’t need eyes to see
I saw the thumbnail for this episode on the home page and thought it looked like the cover of a post-rock album.
What the fuck guys
I love escape from L.A.
I watched The Thing for the first time earlier this year, and it has got to be the best movie I’ve seen in a long time.
I usually watch it every Halloween (and sometimes during the winter). I love that movie the way some people fucking love science.
Also not really a Halloween movie, but another one that scared me as a kid and I think is still interesting and effective, is “The Night of the Hunter.” Robert Mitchum’s creepy “preacher” scared the pants off li’l ABN. It was Charles Laughton’s only directorial effort (I believe the unfavorable reception put him off directing any more films), and he makes a lot of use of German Expressionism-inspired lighting, sets, etc. to achieve a curious, dreamlike atmosphere. For me, as a child (and even to contemplate as an adult), the idea of losing the protection of one’s parents was the… Read more »
I hated Mandy
Mandy is very polarizing, people either really love it or absolutely hate it.
People have taste or they don’t
My parents took me to see “Alien” when it came out. Needless to say, I couldn’t sleep for many nights afterward.
Hitchcock’s “Frenzy” is underrated, IMO.
I enjoy this podcast, alot.
I did to, bud
I enjoy Thursdays
Re: horror of comfy, safe home, see “Demon Seed” from 1977. Saw it as a kid and it fucked me up. (Of course, I’ve not seen it in a very long time, so not sure how well it holds up, etc.) Techno-horror?
Not sure this fits into the Halloween theme, but also check out Blatty’s much lesser known “The Ninth Configuration.” Creepy setting, weird characters, and a cool religious twist at the end.
Knew old Michigan Borzoi would have an Evil Dead on the list. Evil Dead: The Musical is worth seeing, too! Pretty funny.
And for beautifully shot, atmospheric stuff — check out Mario Bava and Jean Rollin movies. Hard to match that Euro feel.
I know Romero was a big shitlib, but I still love “Dawn of the Dead” and “Day of the Dead.” The Zak Snyder remake of “Dawn” was decent, too. And “Shaun of the Dead” was hilarious, in addition to being appropriately gross.
And most Tim Burton movies don’t really do anything for me, but I loved his “Ed Wood.”
Here’s my top 10:
10.Nightmare Before Christmas
9.Sleepy Hollow
8.Hellraiser
7.Ghostbusters
6.From Beyond
5.Event Horizon
4.Mandy
3.The VVitch
2.The Return of the Living Dead
1.Fright Night
…And he bit his head off just like a ginger. bread. man.

I am surprised there were no Hammer Horror Films or any Vincent Price films in either your top 10s or your honorable mentions.
Pre-listen prediction: Borzoi will select obscure foreign (likely Japanese) movies for signaling purposes.
We have such sights to show you.
