Hellraiser is based on a short story of Clive Barker. In that story, the Cennobites honor their agreement with the girl to return Frank to them in exchange for her freedom. In the film, they renege. The story version is more consistent with the theme of the wicked and over-curious for sensation get punished. The theme of the film is that curiosity for, and seeking of, sensation leads to destruction as the final experience. The Cennobites are not evil. They are inevitable. End effort post.
