There are air force guys who are in combat. Forward air controllers/combat controllers are on the ground with army or marine infantry to liase between them and close air support to properly direct fire.
The best FACs are Marines. IIRC they’ve all been trained as Marine platoon commanders before they became aviators. So they know both ground and air operations inside out. I’ve even read comments by Army platoon commanders that said they preferred close air support to be provided by Marine air units because the Marines “break their hearts” trying to support the infantry.
You are correct. AF FACs will almost always be imbedded with Army ground units. As Marines have their own aviators, most of the time they can handle that in-house depending on the AO

I think the point of “the cyanide can’t penetrate the wall” argument is that the sample taken for testing would’ve been diluted because the cyanide would’ve been mixed in with so much extra material when they tested it. Isn’t that the answer? The dilution argument would only make sense if every sample had come back with zero/trace levels. They found cyanide well beyond detection limits in some of the samples. Therefore, the method used was capable of detecting cyanide.
