My view is that it’s technology to use and store solar and maybe wind energy is worth researching as the energy is just there for the taking and could supplement the power grid. If you don’t have infinity population growth and you use a mix of solar/wind, nat. gas, hydro and nuclear you could have a functioning grid. Disappointed with the death panel being lightswitch brained and lazy about wood power and alternative energy. The whole point of burning things like trees for energy is that it is “carbon neutral” and not adding more carbon to the biosphere, whereas digging up carbon from the ground to burn it does just that.
Now, we could discuss the science and efficiencies, policy goals and economics of doing such, but boiling everything down to “hurr durr that releases carbon dioxide too environmentalists btfo” is really lazy and anti-scientific.

Well it is carbon neutral in the biosphere overall, you’re converting tree carbon into air carbon dioxide. I agree that it is a process that does need to be managed, as you don’t want total deforestation and assuming if carbon dioxide causing global warming is true you don’t want to ruin the environment on accident. Who can say the world wouldn’t be better off a few degrees warmer? Humans have flourished in warmer periods than this, and there have been many of those.

The industrial forests which are producing biomass are not the same forests which are sequestering the majority of carbon.
I would agree with you here, except every rigorous scientific study has shown biomass to be at least almost as bad for the environment as burning fossil fuels. I agree that there are a lot of light switch brains here who seem to have to reflexively hate green tech without taking any time to understand it.
I’m open to the possibility that biomass isn’t any better or is worse than burning fossil fuels for our industrial society as far as emissions or whatever, I just don’t like the lazy takes.

Solar works when your decentralized a “power plant” ill agree is not going to work. But like panels on your property just for you absolutely does. Im not hooked up to the grid, my panels power the house and also charge a battery bank. I can go 3 days without sun and still have power in the house.
