Wood gas is a mixture of heavy partially decomposed hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, steam and hydrogen gas, if you are piping it or bottling it and transporting it from the site where it was produced, then the only molecules that will remain in the gas phase are CO(carbon monoxide) and H2(hydrogen gas) which burn with a reasonably high energy density to produce CO2 and H2O. I have a degree in Chemical Engineering, I can confirm that 2 CO + O2 -> 2 CO2 + energy. Carbon monoxide reacts with oxygen to release heat, so yes Carbon monoxide does burn.

I don’t think anybody would deny that fossil fuels are the most profitable. Renewables have big up front costs and are far more variable, producing the most energy when energy is cheap and the least when energy is at its most expensive. These are all very accurate criticisms of green technology. Natural gas creates next to nothing in emissions, literally nothing but CO2 which could actually be mitigated in a few easy and fairly inexpensive ways such as sequestration or additional plant life (assuming you even believe that is a problem, which is still debateable). Oil is needed not for burning, but for manufacturing plastics.
Both of which are the cheapest commodities on earth other than water.
There simply is not enough room on planet earth to plant enough trees to sequester the carbon (and methane, natural gas actually produces a lot of methane emissions, so no, it doesn’t just produce co2) from natural gas. Sequestration also requires energy, which then would have to come from bur ing fossil fuels or green tech. In either situation, it is better to just use green tech, from a financial or environmental perspective. Carbon capture is not the same as sequestration. Carbon capture assumes taking CO2 out of the atmosphere versus capturing CO2 at things like Methanol plants and putting it back in the ground through processing.

Using a 12 year old example of a technology being sbit without examining the new stuff is laughably misleading. Solar panels today produce double the energy at a fraction of the cost.
