Home Depot is the worst, multiple times at work we’ve ordered stuff from them online to be picked up later.. One time it was a shovel and other misc parts…went to pick up like 4 hours after ordering. Small business owner here, one of the Prime reasons why small businesses do not have a large store of cash, aside from often operating on paper thin margins, is that the tax system in the United States strongly discourages companies from having large slush funds. You get taxed on that. but if you continually reinvest any and all profits back into the business with legitimate, or sometimes otherwise, business expenses, that’s a tax deduction. So we are actively discouraged from having a rainy day fund as business owners.
And it’s sort of the opposite in the non-profit sector which is why you see Harvard with a $40 billion endowment. (Supposedly the last tax bill started taxing those for the first time but I don’t know the details).
