On the gulf coast they have “catfish houses”. They’re typically mom and pop restuarants that specialize in fish of all varieties.

The concept of a non-mega chain/privately owned seafood restaurant being somehow elusive and rare had me both cracking up and envious at the same time, as living in the big city gets grating…. The best sardines are the “Nuri” ones from the Pinhais company in Portugal. They’re prepared and packed by hand, about $8 a can on Amazon. Top quality canned/jarred fish is one of the finer things in life. Hot stuff.
