I grew up in Bensonhurst in the 90s. We used to routinely get into it with Puerto Ricans and our 13/52 friends. Back then, Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst were still largely Italian, so they would think twice about coming into our neighboorhood looking for problems.
By the early 2000s, a good portion of Italians left and went over to Staten Island and the suburbs in NJ. 18th Avenue resembles Chinatown now. What was once a 90%+ ethnic white neighboorhood is now 40% white.
Fucking tragic. It was such a fantastic place to grow up.
