There’s a long-running satire magazine in the UK called The Viz, it was basically a comic of shitposts before the internet was a thing.
When Freddy vs Jason was released, the Viz got some deal to advertise the movie and held a competition to win some DVDs of it, but they said in the magazine that the movie was shite and that the DVDs were worthless. The movie production company refused to give them the promo copies in response.

Atari 2600 was pretty novel but it as a console was still not quite there for really making a lot of vidya. With your Pacman example, 2600 was put to the limit because you had only two sprites to render at once. That’s part of why the sprites constantly had to flicker when rendering frames. Why they chose the god awful blue screen, I have no idea.
Ackshully, the Atari 2600 VCS was the first successful cartridge-programmable home video game system when it was introduced in 1978. It was revolutionary for it’s time, and did quite a bit with it’s 4-6K max of internal RAM. The Mattel Intellivision, first released in 1980, was its biggest competitor back in the day with about 8K of internal RAM and much better sound and graphic quality. But it’s wired-in and non-replacable shit-disc controllers were it’s biggest drawback.
I’m not doubting it was revolutionary. It was leaps and bounds over (((Ralph Baer)))’s Odyssey. I more mean this in hindsight where you really can’t do a lot without some really wacky stuff. Raiders of the Lost Ark kinda comes to mind in adventure context, since you literally had to just require a second controller and graphical and sound limitations made it all very plain and difficult to read. I have a thread on vidya on BANG, I placed the peak of gaming sooner than Alex, early to mid 2000s. Golden age of RPS was the top, some great games after that but it declined.
Morrowind, GTA San Andreas and classic WoW will forever be the best games ever made. Everything after the 2000-2006 era was a letdown
