The rumor about Babylon 5 is that when Straczynski shopped his show from network to network to get the show made, the producers stole his idea for Deep Space 9. It’s unlikely to be a coincidence, as Mike points out, because the foundation of the shows completely mirror each other. Not only do both shows take place on a spaceport which turned into a battle outpost to face an unequaled threat – they even both get space-ships for the main characters to go out and do adventures on a few seasons in. Hard to care when both shows are enjoyable.
