If you look at the sprawl away from downtown L.A., where nobody lives, it’s obvious it was built for the automobile.
I lived in L.A. from 1985 to 2018 so I’m well aware of the sprawl. But the Pacific Electric Railway system was built long before the car was an issue. The reason why the P.E.R. was built was because the same people that owned it own tons of real estate in the area. Going all the way to Riverside and San Bernardino.
