SJWS: Liberals from the Future

The Social Justice Warrior is an obnoxious and totalitarian figure to people in the Alt-Right and anti-PC in general. Their snarky, arrogant attitude and disbelief at other people’s opinions has become a meme in its own right.("Wow, just wow. It’s the current year.") They are usually an intersectional feminist, intent on “educating” everyone else who’s ignorant of their worldview, and are quick to shut down any disagreement under the pretense of "hate speech." It’s interesting to note that there’s a point of contention that "SJWS aren’t REAL leftists." From the Gamergate wiki, a gamergay attempts to explain:

an SJW is someone who displays a fundamental misunderstanding of social justice in the process of ostensibly promulgating it. Said promulgation is typically enacted with the intent of aggrandizing the promulgator within the purview of the social circles with which they associate. Beyond being cynical and disingenuous, this also frequently exposes the gallingly protuberant sanctimony of the promulgator, as they usually are what they so vehemently condemn--bigots, libelists, conformists, and elitists.

Besides being unnecessarily wordy, the author is attempting to say “See, these guys are hypocrites, they believe in social justice but they are racist against whites and men.” This charge of hypocrisy is very similar to conservatives' complaint about progressives being anti-white racists even though they’re supposedly tolerant. Possible observations of the SJWS humorlessness and Political Correctness belonging to one side of the political spectrum are deflected by the moderate (coward) author. However, Political Correctness and calling anyone who disagreed with you a bigot has existed since far before things like Anita Sarkeesian or Tumblr; its roots go back to the early '70s where it described how the PC crowd (aka progressives) wanted offensive speech socially stigmatized. Jonathan Chait has criticized the rise of PC in recent years. Rather than being a natural consequence of what happens when progressives gain control of institutions and begin suppressing right-wing speech, aka "hate," Chait frames it as a corruption of liberalism by the radical left. But he admits that PC is not in conflict with what progressives' objectives are:

Political correctness appeals to liberals because it claims to represent a more authentic and strident opposition to their shared enemy of race and gender bias. And of course liberals are correct not only to oppose racism and sexism but to grasp (in a way conservatives generally do not) that these biases cast a nefarious and continuing shadow over nearly every facet of American life. Since race and gender biases are embedded in our social and familial habits, our economic patterns, and even our subconscious minds, they need to be fought with some level of consciousness. The mere absence of overt discrimination will not do.

He admits that the radical left and center-left's goals are the same— economic and social equality—but criticizes the methods to obtaining progress as illiberal. The center-left's PC is just a stepping stone to being offended at all non-leftist speech. Progressives, or the anti-White party, WANT to ban hate speech. 51% of liberals do versus 37% of conservatives, with only 26% of liberals opposing it, versus 47% for conservatives. And the Millennial generation, which leans progressive and is increasingly non-White, want to ban hate speech, with at least 40% agreeing that "government should be able to prevent people publicly making statements that are offensive to minority groups." Speech codes on college campuses, which heavily lean left, have been here since the 1980s, banning discriminatory (inegalitarian) statements.

How does that wording really differ from this? Heck, it even mentions social justice in the background text to the Civil Rights Act. Progressives, being against discrimination, like their forbears, except for Whites and men, naturally didn’t find the thought of banning “hate speech” that intolerable. The other point of contention is that SJWS are a fringe phenomenon, with only a few crazy progressives supporting them. That was disproved by SJWS being supported and even allowed to join Twitter's Trust and Safety Council, which included Anita Sarkeesian. The SJWs of Gamergate were supported by slanted news coverage from center-left “non-SJW” news outlets like ABC, NBC, and CNN. Concepts used by SJWS, such as White privilege and "racism=power plus prejudice" have been used for decades in academia, slowly seeping into liberal discourse. Yes, with concepts like White privilege, it was originated by radical leftists from the SDS, including anti-White Jew Noel Ignatiev. But that doesn’t remove the fact that the progressive left is the one that agrees with and pushes these terms from obscurity, much like "microaggressions" and "transgender." Also, the term social justice as it is usually defined is rightly tied to the centre-left, because of the liberal philosopher John Rawls who formulated it.

Social justice is defined as "...promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." It exists when "all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equitable treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources." In conditions of social justice, people are "not be discriminated against, nor their welfare and well-being constrained or prejudiced on the basis of gender, sexuality, religion, political affiliations, age, race, belief, disability, location, social class, socioeconomic circumstances, or other characteristic of background or group membership."

These are things all social justice warriors, all progressives, support: diversity, human rights, redistribution of wealth and anti-discrimination policies. The difference we’re left with is that progressives believe in social justice, just like SJWS, but aren’t as humorless or hysterical about it. Behavior at the recent Ohio Trump rally is merely a taste of what progressives are becoming. SJWs are really just the centre-left in 5-10 years, who have “progressed” from PC to outright banning of hate speech.
