Echo the Virgin

Jane the Virgin is a dumb show airing on the CW about a girl who is a virgin but happens to get pregnant by accident via in vitro fertilization. However, I’m not here to talk about the premise or the show itself but rather about how the Electric Jew works.

When I first became aware of the show’s existence I noticed that for some reason Jane was a Latina. I didn’t give it much thought at the time. The show simply fell out of my radar. Things changed when I found that Jane the Virgin is loosely based on a Venezuelan telenovela named “Juana la Virgen” (literally “Jane the Virgin”). It would make sense that Jane was what SWPLs think Latinous (emphasis on the u) are or look like as homage of the show’s Latin American roots. Here’s the thing though—this is what the original Juana looked like:

One would think that when adapting something from one market to another you would localize it, and that might include changing the cast to something more palatable to the receiving audience (something that leftists don’t get when complaining about “whitewashing”). Nobody would’ve batted an eye if Jane happened to be white; after all, she was white in the original. As a matter of fact, most of the cast of the original was white too! Or to use a TRS-style term to refer to the direct descendants of the Spanish in the rest of the Americas, “Spanish-American”—I prefer the term Asspaniards though.

So how does this happen? You already know the answer. The show was developed by one Jennie {{{{Snyder Urman}}}} and produced by her and one Ben {{{{Silverman}}}}.

Sup, goys

So here we have a show supposedly developed for the US market (CW is not Telemundo) but whose cast’s ethnicity is fucking reversed, going from this... fucking Latin America, to this...

...In allegedly white America, thanks to the echoey producers.

The message is clear: you better start melting in the pot soon, goys.
